ActivityAn activity describes a person's involvement in a film. This could be anything from being the writer, director, special effects, stunts, editing or acting. For example:
All KeywordsThe All Keywords field searches for any word or phrase contained in the Title, Year (release, copyright, production, tramsmission), Character, Cast and Credits, Production Company, Country, Award Series, Award Category, Award Year, Notes, References, Synopsis, and Running Time in the Film search or Quick search. To enter terms into the search box, type your search terms directly into the All Keywords search box. Search terms may consist of either single words or phrases. For example:
Award YearThe Award Year field can help you narrow your search to films that have an award associated with them for a particular or range of years. The default years entered are 1928 (earliest award) to the most recent awards included in the site. Day and month are not searchable as search criteria in this field. The Award Year field can be searched in two ways. To search on a range of years, enter the relevant year values into the from and to boxes, or to search within a single year, enter the same year in the from and to boxes. For example:
Searching for films that have won awards at the Oscar or BAFTA ceremonies held in the current year will not necessarily yield any results, as this data may not yet be available in Film Index International. AwardsThe Awards are arranged by the six different awarding bodies (ie Venice Festival Awards) that are included in Film Index International and within each set of awarding bodies are the individual awards. You can search on one or more award series. Windows users can multi-select contiguous terms using SHIFT+Click and non-contiguous terms using CTRL+Click. Highlighted terms can be de-selected by moving the cursor to the relevant term and using CTRL+Click. For example:
Cast and CreditsThe Cast and Credits field will search for records containing particular cast and crew member names in the Film search. For example:
CharacterThe Character field will limit a search to records containing a particular character name in the Film search or Person search. For example:
Character names are searchable only in the non-inverted form. In other words, a search for "Harry Potter" will yield different results than "Potter, Harry". CountryThe Country field will limit a search to films that originate in a particular country in the Film search. For example:
Some films have more than one country associated with them. DirectorUse the Director field to search for films with a particular director's name in the Film search. For example:
NameThe Name field searches for people with a particular name in the Person search. You can enter just a surname or first name, or both. For example:
FII includes alternative names in the person record. If you search on the alternative name, the record of that person's most well-known name will be retrieved. For example, a search on Norma Jean Baker will retrieve the person record for Marilyn Monroe. NationalityUse that nationality field to Limit your search to people who have a particular nationality in the Person search. For example:
Some people may have more than one nationality associated with them. SynopsisThe synopsis field will allow you to search for keywords within the film synopsis. For example:
TitleUse the Title field to search for any word or phrase contained in the title of a film in the film search. For example:
The browse for Title contains the full film title for each film contained in the site. This is useful if you want to see an alphabetical list of film titles. The Title field also searches alternate film titles, such as foreign language titles or working titles. Title KeywordThe Title Keyword field to searches for any word or phrase contained in the title of a film in the Film search. For example:
The browse for Title Keyword contains every single keyword contained in the titles in the site. This is useful if you can only remember part of a title. The Title Keyword field also searches alternate film titles, such as foreign language titles or working titles. YearUse the Year field to limit your Film search to films released during a specific year or a range of years. The default values appearing in the search boxes represent the earliest (1900) and most recent year of released films in the site. Day and month are not searchable as search criteria in this field.
